Railcar Diversion Service (CN 9000, Item 12000) - Effective August 1, 2008
This is to advise you that effective August 1, 2008, CN will simplify its fees for diverting loaded railcars.
We define a diversion as any change in the way we handle a railcar once the Bill of Lading is entered in our system, and the railcar has been pulled from your siding. That might be a change in the consignee, a change in routing – even a change in destination. Each request is evaluated individually, and we always try to answer your needs.
Currently, a fee of $130 per loaded railcar is assessed for a diversion request requiring a change in paperwork (shipper, consignee, “care of” party or pay status). If the request affects the physical handling of the railcar to destination, a fee of $208 per loaded railcar is assessed. Effective August 1, 2008, CN will implement a single diversion service fee of $130 per loaded railcar.
In addition, in an effort to minimize invoicing issues, as of August 1, 2008, CN will only accept diversion requests in writing from the payer of freight and we will no longer accept loaded diversion requests on traffic received from another rail carrier.
To request a diversion of your shipment, please communicate with your customer support representative or contact CN Customer Service at 1-866-926-7245.
Sincerely,
Doug A. MacDonald
