June 18, 2008
Dear IAIS Customers,
This is an update from Tuesday June 17, 2008
Our service in Illinois continues to remain normal.
As of today flood waters continue to recede. We have no structural damage to any of our bridges and all remain intact.
Record high flood waters in Iowa City, IA of the Iowa River have resulted in NO flooding to our railroad’s physical plant in Iowa City. The Iowa City flood waters are continuing to recede.
Our mainline between the Quad Cities and Omaha/Council Bluffs is disrupted at two locations. One is approximately 20 miles East of Iowa City on the Cedar River and the other is in Des Moines, IA.
It is anticipated that near normal rail traffic in Des Moines, IA should resume by late today or by Thursday.
Flood water is starting to recede on our main line east of Iowa City, IA on the Cedar River. As of now the best case scenario for reopening the main line between Iowa City and Rock Island, IL is anticipated to be sometime next week. We are continuing to work with other railroads for possible detour routes.
Access from Iowa Interstate Railroad to and from Cedar Rapids, IA continues to be prohibited and will continue until such time the CRANDIC Railroad can reasses the long term flood damage.
Unless circumstances change we will update you again on Thursday.
Sincerely,
Jillian Walsh
