Effective July 1, 2006 the CN will no longer accept railcar shipping instructions via fax. They must be sent via EDI or submitted through the CN website. This policy is described on page 2 of the Optional Services Tariff (CN 9000). As announced in March, the tariff covering demurrage costs changes on July 1 to a "straight plan" asset use program.
CN's position is in keeping with the other Class I carriers. All of them strongly discourage or no longer accept faxed shipping instructions. Contact us if you are still manually tendering or tracking your shipments. RSI provides EDI services through RSInet - the online system that makes it easy for customers to manage shipments, railcar assets, and freight costs.
